Invincible Is the Gritty Animated Superhero Series You Should Be Watching
Invincible tells the story of Mark Grayson, a regular American teenager living in a regular American town. He’s normal—except for the fact that his father is OmniMan, a Superman-like figure who is the most powerful superhero on the planet.
The first episode is pretty standard superhero fare until you get to the end and, well, let’s just say, we won’t spoil it for you.
The rest of the eight-episode series follows Mark, his father, and a motley crew of characters, both human and superhuman. There’s graphic violence, dry wit and comedy, and moments of quiet introspection—things we might get from other superhero titles, but often not all together.
The series features a stellar cast led by Steven Yeun, who voices Mark; JK Simmons, who plays his father Nolan a.k.a. OmniMan; and Sandra Oh, who voices his mother, Debbie Grayson. Other featured voice actors are Gillian Jacobs, Andrew Rannells, Zachary Quinto, Zazie Beetz, Mark Hamill, Jon Hamm, and Seth Rogen, who also serves as one of the executive producers of the series.
