Coldplay is already one of the biggest rock bands on the planet so for their latest song, they looked up and away from earth.
The British band premiered their new song, “Higher Power,” to the International Space Station through French astronaut Thomas Pesquet of the European Space Agency. Pesquet is the current mission commander of the ISS.
“Right now, we can’t really play for anybody on earth, so we thought we’d just play for you,” frontman Chris Martin tells Pesquet in the video posted on YouTube.
“Right now we are able to imagine alien worlds as a way of saying what we think about life on earth,” Martin said about the song. “It’s safer to say it about aliens than it is about humans.”
“The song is about trying to find the astronaut in all of us,” he added. “The person that can do amazing things.”
“Higher Power is the first single off of Coldplay’s much-anticipated ninth studio album, whose title has yet to be announced.
