Ultraelectromagneticpop! Will Be Out on Vinyl LP
If you're one of the many Eraserheads fans who expressed their wish for a 25th anniversary vinyl reissue of Ultraelectromagneticpop!, you've been heard. The band has confirmed that production is ongoing for the remastered vinyl, to be released in a limited run of 2,500 copies.
The warm analog quality of Ultraelectromagneticpop!, the first major album released by iconic Pinoy rock group The Eraserheads, was part of its charm, and that hasn't been lost on the band members themselves. While the remastered tracks were released digitally by Sony Music, the vinyl version is handled by Offshore Music, an indie record label headed by Ely Buendia.
"Of course, being fans of the Eraserheads, and us doing vinyl for our artists, we've always wondered and wanted to do the Eraserheads catalog on vinyl," says an Offshore Music representative who has asked to remain anonymous.
Though a number of local producers were considered for the project, Offshore and Sony agreed on hiring the eminent producer Bernie Grundman to do the remastering, while the physical pressing of the records were also to be done in the US. "[Grundman is] acknowledged and regarded as one of the top engineers in the world. He has won Grammys because of his work plus in terms of the quality of the vinyl that he remastered for other artists, like Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. He also mastered the Jack Johnson’s In Between Dreams, which was nominated for Grammys. It’s really more of what he did and knowing and experiencing the outcome of his work that made us choose him," says the Offshore rep.
What should listeners expect? "For vinyl, you will hear the warmth, you’ll hear that there’s more body. There’s a better soundstage. You can hear other instruments that you may not be hearing on digital."
As for the Eraserheads' other albums, the rep says: "Nothing is definite. but we’d like to release Circus and Cutterpillow soon after."
