Fete Dela Musique Is Happening...Online

It looks like it’s going to be a while before you can enjoy concerts in person. The most we can do right now is watch our favorite artists perform online in the comfort and safety of our own homes.

You can count the Fete de la Musique to the list of live music events moving online. The annual musical extravaganza, a staple in the calendar of ever music-lover here in the Philippines and elsewhere in the world, is pushing through with the 2020 edition exclisively online.

The free livestream concert will be broadcast live via Facebook on Sunday, June 21 from 6:15 pm to 10:00 pm, featuring performances from three Filipino acts and two French acts. It will be hosted by Manila’s so-called “nurse rapper,” Fatima Palma Loo.

Headlining the event are folk music legend Cynthia Alexander, popular pop-rock band The Itchyworms, inventive French jazz duo NoSax NoClar, avant-garde French-pop singer and DJ Charles-Baptiste, and Brass Pas Pas Pas Pas.

The year 2020 also marks the first century of existence in the country of Alliance Française de Manille, which organizes the annual Fete de la Musique.

Last year, Fête de la Musique celebrated its 25th anniversary in the coutry with a record 60 stages in 8 cities across the nation, gathering more than 3,000 musicians and over 40,000 spectators.

Pandemic or not, the show will literally go on. What makes this edition of Fete de la Musique extra special is that it seeks to contribute to some of the local music community’s most directly affected members—the roadies. The online show will serve as a platform to drive donations towards Roadie Superstars and Roadies Club PH to help these most essential yet largely unrecognized figures of the entertainment ecosystem.

According to Alliance Française de Manille, the online concert will also be in support of LEAP, a non-stock, non-profit organization composed of event producers, event and activation agencies; which will officially launch via Facebook on June 25.
