Prepare Your Punk Hearts: Green Day is Coming to Manila in 2020 for the First Time Ever

You better thank your lucky stars.

“Can you hear the sound of hysteria?” Yes, yes we can. Because the Philippines just woke up to the news that Green Day is coming to Manila for the first time ever in 2020, reviving the slumbering punk hearts of millions of Green Day fans.

The American band will perform at the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City, on March 14, 2020. Ticket prices are yet to be announced, but the band stated on its website that "general on sale begins Friday, September 20th" at 10 a.m. U.S. local time. VIP packages will be made available for every show, although details are yet to be confirmed.

September 20 also marks the 15th anniversary of the band’s politically charged, punk rock opera album American Idiot, which produced hits like “Jesus of Suburbia” and “Boulevard of Broken Dreams.”

Green Day announced its Manila concert via a hilarious (deepfake) video on its YouTube page as part of the launch of its Hella Mega Tour with Fall Out Boy and Weezer. It’s the Holy Trinity of alternative rock.

But don’t get too excited just yet—Fall Out Boy and Weezer won’t be joining the band on the Asian leg of the tour, but all three will appear together in select cities in Europe, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The tour will kick off in Singapore on March 8, and the Philippines will be the band’s third stop in Asia before heading off to Taiwan. The Hella Mega Tour is presented by Harley-Davidson Motorcycles.

The tour will begin just a month after Green Day releases its much-awaited 13th album aptly titled Father of All Motherfuckers on February 7, 2020. The first single of the new album, “Father of All…” has already been released, and we can’t help but rave at the band's return to the sound of “glorious anarchy,” as it puts it.

An icon in punk rock, Green Day revived the genre in the ‘90s with its breakout album Dookie. Dookie, along with American Idiot, appeared on Rolling Stone’s list of 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

The Grammy Award-winning three-man band was also listed on VH1’s 100 Greatest Artists of All Time and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015, cementing its lasting legacy on music.

Rock is back on the road and we can’t wait till Green Day hits Manila. To say that we’re pumped would be an understatement.
