K-Pop Legend Psy Enlists BTS' Suga For This Body-Twisting New Song 'That That'

K-Pop meets the Wild Wild West in this catchy new single set to rule your summer playlists. The K-Pop legend, Psy, widely known for his 2013 hit track "Gangnam Style" is tapping into the new era of K-Pop where BTS reign supreme in a Western-themed collaboration with none other than BTS' Suga.

The new single and title track of his new album, Psy 9th, "That That," features and is produced by Suga. It is The "New Face" singer's first release since his 2017 album 4×2=8.

The song and video are reminiscent of plenty of Psy's older works, including "Gangnam Style." "That That" is fun, quirky and hard to resist. Under a catchy, auto-tuned sound, the song expresses the excitement of the pandemic ending, while enjoying the hustle of the city streets.

Dressed in dazzling cowboy suits, Psy, Suga and a slew of dancers are seen engaging with lively dance moves and hang ten signs.

"We have a saying in the K-Pop industry, if the song is meant to be a hit, it's made in a jiff," Psy opened up in a series of new videos titled "best friends 16 years apart," "it was a jiff I haven't experienced in a long time."

Suga was initially not supposed to take on such a large role in the song and video, expecting to only produce the track. However, "step by step," he took on a greater role in the song by writing a verse, learning the choreography and pulling it off. His involvement was influenced by the rapper's growing friendship with the 44-year-old K-Pop icon. Psy and the BTS rapper opened up about the collaboration and their evolved friendship, both viewing each other now as "besties."

“To be honest, I haven’t gotten that close with anyone I collab with. It’s because I’m not the type to meet up and collaborate in-person, Suga said in one video, "At first, because he’s many years my senior and someone who’s well-respected in the business I was quite nervous," but as the time went on "it felt like working with a childhood friend, so it made the songwriting process that much more fun.”

Psy also opened up about his experience with Suga. “When meeting younger artists, I don’t want to make them feel uncomfortable. I don’t want to be someone who’s hard to approach. He just wasn’t my junior in the business, but also he truly feels like a friend,” he said.

Psy 9th dropped today with "That That" as the title track. The album also features a collection of star-studded collaborations with other popular Korean artists.
