UPDATE: The two remaining members of Tom's Story, Gabba Santiago and Christer "Degs" De Guia, have released a statement acknowledging that one of the reasons for Naval's departure involved "a serious incident involving him and another person, which they have decided to settle privately."

"Beyond friendship and camaraderie, Tom’s Story truly believes that each one of us is capable of change and should be given the opportunity to do so," the statement read. "But we also recognise that one must face the consequences for mistakes made. After much thought and consideration, we have decided to support Tom’s decision to leave the band."

Tom's Story's management team, A Spur of the Moment Project, also released a statement saying how they were "disheartened" at Naval's "sudden decision."

The record label and artist management group also mentioned how they "disapprove" of "behaviour that displays any form of sexual misconduct [sic]."

Original story follows:

Tom Naval, one-third of local post-rock group Tom’s Story, has left the band. In a post on the band’s Facebook page on Thursday, January 3, the bassist said he is departing for “personal reasons” and intends to focus his time “elsewhere.”

The remaining members—guitarist Gabba Santiago and drummer Christer “Degs” De Guia—will go on as Tom’s Story.

As one of the few purely instrumental rock groups in the country, Tom’s Story has carved a niche in the local music scene and is widely credited for bringing the genre closer to the mainstream for modern Filipino audiences. The band released its self-titled debut album in 2016 and has been a staple in the gig circuit in Metro Manila for years. In 2017, the members played their biggest gig yet as one of the local acts in international indie music festival Wanderland. They followed that up a year later with a headlining set with fellow indie darling Reese Lansangan in the new concert series Karpos Live.

Although no other reason was given for Naval’s departure, there has been speculation about his activities outside of the band. There was also a serious accusation posted in the comments section of Naval’s post that has been quickly deleted. Whatever it is, fans have been quick to bemoan the major lineup change.
