Brighter Lights Lead to Better Sex, According to Study

Scientists have literally shined a light on how to have better sex

Here's a potential home remedy for a low sex drive: light therapy, the same kind used to combat seasonal affective disorder.

According to Popular Science, researchers at the University of Siena in Italy took 38 men with lack of interest in sex and split them into two groups. One group was hit with 10,000 lux of white fluorescent light with an ultraviolet filter for 30 minutes upon waking up, the other with placebo light. After two weeks, the men under bright light treatment reported three times more sexual satisfaction—ranking it a six out 10—largely due to a measurable increase in testosterone after treatment. The placebo group saw little change.

The bright light theory is tied to noted seasonal fluctuations in reproduction. As the study said, conception rates go down in darker months—fall and winter—and peak during June, when the days are the longest. It also pointed out that light treatment could replace medications that would normally be used to treat low sex drive, like anti-depressants. Note that it was a small study, but it is also one easily home tested: You can buy 10,000 lux lights on Amazon, if you're so inclined.
