The Internet Watched 100 Billion Hours of Gaming Content on YouTube in 2020
It's no secret that a lot of us spent the majority of 2020 watching stuff online. Take YouTube for instance, which has just released a video showing just how much time the internet spent watching gaming content.
Crazy doesn't even begin to cover it. We all contributed to YouTube's gaming section to grow to 100 billion watch time hours. Let that news sink in. 100. Hours. Of. Pure. Gaming. Entertainment. "YouTube Gaming has its biggest year, ever, in 2020 with 100B watch time hours and 40M+ active gaming channels.," YouTube said in a statement.
It continues, "Despite the ups and downs from 2020, many have turned to gaming on YouTube as a way to find connection, entertainment, and to share moments with friends and loved ones during these trying times. Through it all, we’ve connected even more deeply with gaming creators—some even had their biggest year ever on YouTube in 2020. As the year comes to an end, we’re reflecting on the moments, creators, and trends that defined gaming on YouTube in 2020."
On top of all that, more than 80,000 YouTube gaming creators hit 100,000 subscribers, over 1,000 gaming creators hit five million subscribers, and over 350 gaming creators reached 10 million subscribers.
While the most watch games were Minecraft, Roblox, Garena Free Fire, Grand Theft Auto V, and Fortnite. Whew.
