Danish audio brand Bang & Olufsen is unabashed about their swanky speakers and headphones falling under a price bracket for those who mean business about audio, but they also want you to know that it's well worth spending a pretty penny for their premium audio gear.
As the company celebrated 100 years of making its luxury audio and home theater products for the discerning music listener, Esquire Philippines had a quick sit-down with B&O Philippines Brand Manager Vince Miclat to talk shop on these beautifully engineered and designed pieces of furniture that vow to authentically reproduce tunes and bring life to movies.

B&O, which was founded in Struer, Denmark, in 1925, is a design-driven company that started out with the straightforward mission to bring better radios into homes. This evolved into a legacy involving chic, luxury, furniture-inspired, and undeniably eye-catching sculptural speakers, among other audio products.
Their stuff doesn't come cheap, just looking at their recently-launched Centennial Collection with speakers such as the Beosound A5 (P140,000) and the Beosound A9 (P420,000) that carry brushed aluminum details and internals that promise to deliver bespoke design and sound quality.

We wanted our conversation with Miclat to focus on why B&O matters to the Filipino consumer, and the brand manager tells us that they cater to very successful and design-oriented individuals who know a thing or two about audio.
"Definitely, our customers are very successful. They're also design-driven. And they're very particular with sound. People who enjoy authentic sound, that's our market," he told us on the sidelines of a dinner celebrating the centennial anniversary of B&O.
"Filipinos have a deep appreciation for design and storytelling. With the Centennial Collection, we're not just commemorating the past."
Nowadays, even young folk who are enjoying varying levels of career mobility are turning into discerning audio customers.
So, where does the Danish audio company fit in when you look at a space that includes products that cost a fraction of their speakers but promise supreme audio quality?
"With the previous news about luxury brands raising their prices, but with all the issues of deteriorating craftsmanship or deteriorating quality... we are defining luxury in a very top-tier type of luxury," Miclat said, commenting on the uncompromising quality and intentional design of the brand's product line.
He noted that the audio company is the first player in the world that is Cradle to Cradle Certified, which is a global, third-party certification that assesses products for safety, circularity, and responsible manufacturing. This simply means that if your speakers break, B&O's got you covered.
"Longevity-wise, I think you get the price for what you paid for. Quality, aesthetic, beautiful sound, and of course, longevity," Miclat added.
"The inspiration always is that whenever you hear music or a movie, it has to sound like how the artist or the movie maker wanted it to sound."
