Elon Musk Might Have a Few Things in Store For Twitter

Twitter’s biggest shareholder has some ideas to share.

No one could ever accuse Elon Musk of curbing free speech. He might be the richest sh*tposter on the Internet—and the planet—but he’s certainly advocated for letting people say what they want to say, no matter how absurd. The soon-to-be trillionaire could give Kanye West a run for his money when it comes to Twitter.

As the newest—and biggest—shareholder of Twitter, Musk has all the power to influence the decision-making at Twitter, but he’d prefer to do it from the backseat. The CEO of Tesla and SpaceX actually declined a spot on the board of directors, but Twitter’s CEO Parag Agrawal said they’d take into account any input from Musk, board member or not. And Musk definitely has a few things to say about Twitter.

In a series of Tweets and replies, Musk suggested a number of features Twitter could explore.

First, Musk suggested giving all Twitter Blue subscribers an authentication mark to filter out the bots that pollute the Twitter space. Twitter Blue subscribers already pay $2.99 per month for features like preview time to fix errors before publishing.

His second suggestion took a subtle swipe at Twitter’s social media competitor Facebook. Musk is adamant that there be no advertisements on Twitter, lest it becomes too dependent to stand on its own.

“No ads. The power of corporations to dictate policy is greatly enhanced if Twitter depends on advertising money to survive,” tweeted Musk.

And last, unsurprisingly, was a suggestion about crypto. Musk suggested that payment options be made more accessible for Twitter Blue subscribers, adding that perhaps crypto should be added to the list, specifically his favorite coin Dogecoin.

Of course, these were only presented as suggestions instead of mandates. But we’re sure a harried Twitter employee is taking notes somewhere.
