'Filipino Bakery Near Me' Was a Top Trending Breakout Search in the U.S. This Year

Looks like Filipino food lovers in the U.S. are craving pandesal. In this year’s Google Year in Search report, “Filipino bakery near me” was recorded as a “breakout” search or a top trending search in the U.S. in the month of October.
“During Filipino American Heritage Month in October 2021, Americans explored Filipino culture through their taste buds, causing 'Filipino bakery near me' to become a breakout search in the U.S.,” says the Year in Search 2021 report.
Filipino cuisine has been steadily growing traction in recent years thanks to the Filipino diaspora, with restaurants like Bad Saint and Oriental Market earning recognition by the prestigious James Beard Foundation. Abaca in San Francisco and Kasama in Chicago were recently named among the best new restaurants in America in 2021 by Esquire U.S., while Kasama and Archipelago in Seattle were included in The New York Times’ The Restaurant List 2021.
Filipino restaurants have been getting plenty of recognition, but it’s good to know the bakeries are also getting buzz, at least based on Google data. We already know just how high the demand is for Filipino-inspired pastries as earlier this year, Kora, a Filipino bakery in New York City, was reported to have a 10,000 person waiting list. Perhaps with this year’s Google report, Filipino bakeries big and small will be affirmed or inspired to keep this humble market going.
