You Can Play Your PS4 From Your Phone Now. Here's How

A new app and firmware update is the first Sony-approved remote software

Fidgeting on the sofa while your roommate/partner/mom cues up another Grand Designs and trying to summon up the courage to suggest that maybe you'd like to have a go on FIFA for a bit isn't particularly high up on the list of the world's most pressing difficulties, but it's not a problem anymore.

A new update on the PS4the 6.50 firmware update, if you're askingwhich went live yesterday includes support for an iOS app called Remote Play, which allows you to stream games from your console to your iPhone, iPad, PC, Mac or PS Vita.

Don't worry if you've got a sketchy signal eitherthe app will run at resolutions of 360p, 540p, 720p and 1080p. Unfortunately you can't sync up a PS4 controller with your phone at the moment, so if you don't want to faff about with controls overlaid on top of the game image you'll have to get a piece of third party hardware, but you can't have everything.

This update's been a long time coming: some Android devices have been able to do this for a few years now, but it wasn't that widely available, and there have been slightly hooky non-Sony apps which would do the job, but this is the first app which has the official thumbs-up.
