This Smartphone is What Pro Photographers Love to Shoot With

Huawei talks a big game when it comes to their smartphones, whose dual-lens cameras are co-engineered with Leica. This year, they’ve put the new Huawei P10 to the test by asking top photographers Veejay Villafranca, Larry Piojo, and Dookie Ducay to shoot 100 portraits for their Untold Stories campaign. And frankly, the results look pretty damn good.

The series shines the limelight on ordinary people with fascinating stories, and divides them into three groups: The Fighters, who have the grit to keep pursuing their dreams in spite of difficult circumstances; The Outcasts, who are unfairly judged or denied second chances by the majority; and The Heroes, whose service to society is often overlooked.

When asked about his experience while shooting with the P10, Larry Piojo is all praises. “The professional mode allows photographers to adjust settings manually. So if you forgot your camera or you don’t have a DSLR yet, the P10 can do the job for you. The camera is the best in the market. Just think about it, one camera with three Leica lenses.”
“It lived up to my expectations,” Veejay Villafranca adds. “Apart from being co-engineered with Leica, its super-charged feature is helpful for me especially when I’m out in the field. Sometimes you have no source of power or electricity.”

Even if you’re not a professional photographer, the P10’s portrait mode has four features that allow you to take impressive photos. First, there’s the 3D facial detection, which captures 190 detail identification notes on your subject’s face, ensuring that their cheekbones, chin, and jawline stand out.
The dynamic illumination detects lighting changes such as source and intensity, and adjusts photo configurations based on the subject’s recognized facial features while the portrait enhancement feature makes sure that your skin tone still looks natural.
The last detail is the bokeh effect blurs the background to keep the focus on your subject. When you’re ready to take your photography to the next level, the phone’s pro mode allows you to control settings such as ISO, shutter speed, exposure, et cetera. If you shoot several photos in the same location, the highlights feature automatically compiles them into video stories using GoPro’s database of templates and editing styles.
So, whether you harbor dreams of being a photojournalist, want to take the perfect selfie, or just want to document your family vacations, this phone makes it easy to take beautiful shots.
