This Microphone Changed My Work From Home Life
Working from home for the past 20 months, I’ve overlooked an essential element in online meetings and interviews: audio quality. It is a wonder how so many people have not invested in quality audio over internet calls.
When I got the HyperX QuadCast S, I already knew it was a highly coveted piece of peripheral by top gamers in the country. It is still on the wishlist of some esports athletes in the Philippines but can be seen in the livestreams of the country’s top gamers, including Mobile Legends impresario Setsuna Ignacio, aka Dogie.
What’s so great about the HyperX QuadCast S?
What I initially liked about the QuadCast S is its appearance: it has LED lights that you can customize so this peripheral stands out while you are casting or speaking in an online meeting. Before the QuadCast, condenser microphones were never meant to be showy—they were just invisible pieces of hardware meant to amplify your voice. The QuadCast changed that so you can be proud to show it off on your screen.
But we’re not being superficial here. This condenser mic delivers super-crisp audio as if you were speaking inside a recording studio. Even when I’m off-cam, people noticed the difference in my audio quality and would ask what kind of microphone I was using.
The HyperX QuadCast S also has a built-in pop filter that eliminates those popping noises whenever you speak.
No More Accidental Unmuting
One of the most embarrassing experiences in online meetings is when someone forgets to unmute. Everybody hears you clipping your nails, talking to someone else, or even playing games when you’re supposed to be listening attentively to the meeting.
The QuadCast S solves that problem with its Tap-to-Mute feature. Just touch the surface of the microphone with your finger, and the LED lights switch off, signaling that you are muted.
Perfect for Remote Work and Online Classes
As an editor and someone who produces video content, I found the QuadCast to be a convenient tool for office work and recording spiels.
The HyperX QuadCast S has professional-level audio that elevates my voice to studio-recording quality, so my content doesn’t sound cheaply produced. The clarity of the condenser mic is truly incomparable to any other audio input many remote workers use: a headset, a pair of earphones with audio input, and even your iPhone’s microphone.
As for online meetings and Zoom calls, I found that the QuadCast was thoughtfully engineered to pair with multiple devices and operating systems. It is compatible with Zoom, Teams, macOS, Windows, and multiple streaming and gaming communications platforms such as Discord.
Does the HyperX QuadCast S have noise-canceling functionality?
Unfortunately, the HyperX QuadCast S does not have a noise cancellation feature but you can significantly minimize ambient noise by selecting one of its audio polar patterns on the knob.
For my interviews and online meetings, I always select the Cardioid pattern so the microphone only picks up sound coming from my mouth and not the surroundings.
Interestingly, you can set the mic’s polar pattern to Omnidirectional if you want to capture audio from a group of people speaking together around the microphone.
Overall Verdict: Badass Style with Crisp Audio
The HyperX QuadCast S changed the way we look at microphones from peripheral hardware to a centerpiece status symbol of cool. It's the condenser microphone coveted by top esports athletes and streamers, and it's easy to see why: It has badass style and delivers professional, studio-quality audio.
The HyperX QuadCast S is available in the HyperX flagship store in Shopee and in Lazada.
