This Company Creates Mouse Pads and Desk Mats Inspired by Indigenous Filipino Art
There is a Filipino startup company that creates mouse pads and desk mats inspired by indigenous Filipino designs. Patag seeks to bridge technology with traditional Filipino art to spread cultural awareness and promote Filipino heritage.
According to Jaedick de Leon, founder and one of the owners of Patag, the company envisions modern Filipinos acknowledging cultural diversity and societal equality in our country.
“We care about our fellow Filipinos, and believe that giving back to underserved communities in remote areas is a small but significant step in attaining equality,” De Leon told Esquire Philippines.
Patag is a Filipino term that means pantay or flat and makinis or smooth. Both meanings also describe the extended mouse pads or desk mats it produces.
“As we borrow a piece of Philippine culture from our beloved communities, we are committed to unfailingly give back and share a portion of the sales profit from our products to Filipino communities we will be partnering with,” says De Leon.
One of its most popular products is the Lagud, Ifugao design, which features patterns inspired by the textiles woven by the tribe. Part of the proceeds from this design goes to Ifugao IPED Center.
Another popular design is Manlalaro, featuring baybayin characters. It was designed for gamers.
