PLDT and DITO Have Forged an Interconnection Deal for Wireless Subscribers
PLDT Inc said Monday it has signed an interconnection deal with third player DITO Telecommunity, which would benefit wireless subscribers.
Part of the deal is the construction of a transmission facility that will serve as the point of interconnection for subscribers, PLDT said in a statement.
The facility, which will be managed by the Pangilinan-led telco, will ensure that PLDT subscribers can communicate with the would-be subscribers of DITO.
"During this pandemic, technology has been a lifeline for our customers so we want to make sure that our connectivity is solid in helping our fellow Filipinos and the entire nation during these critical times," PLDT chief revenue officer and Smart Communications president and CEO Al Panlilio said.
The planned facility is expected to be completed by the end of March. DITO is scheduled to launch commercially next month too.
The announcement of an interconnection deal comes just a day after the National Telecommunications Commission said DITO passed its first technical audit, going beyond the minimum average speed set at 27 megabits per second (Mbps) with 85.9 Mbps for 4G and 507.5 Mbps for 5G.
