Pornhub is getting into the cryptocurrency game—kind of like your coworker who wouldn't shut up about it last November. On Tuesday, the site said it was partnering with the currency Verge as a new payment option for the site's premium services.

The move won't have much immediate impact for the average porn viewer. But it could give people who pay for porn some peace of mind, offering them another layer of anonymity at a time when privacy and data are a chief concern. In fact, Pornhub cited Verge's heightened focus on protecting the anonymity of its users as a key reason it was selected over, say, Bitcoin or Ethereum.

For Verge, Pornhub's decision could be a significant boon. Porn has been at the forefront of technological innovations, advancing entire industries, while leveling the others it left behind. Online credit card payments? Thank online porn. Blu-Ray over HD-DVD? Yep, porn. Virtual reality? Get ready.
