This New Emoji is Our 2020 Mood

Unicode Consortium is also releasing 116 other emoji in 2020.

Unicode Consortium hit the nail on the head with its newest roster of emoji for 2020. The best one on the list? The smiling face with tear emoji, also unofficially known as the 2020 mood.

With the novel coronavirus now a global health emergency, Taal Volcano’s eruption, the almost war between the U.S. and Iran, and Kobe Bryant’s recent death, there’s really no better emoji to encompass all our feels.

Here are all the emoji coming this year:

Emoji 13.0 will include 117 completely new and improved emoji that will be rolled out some time in 2020 through software updates. The entire list includes 62 new emoji with 55 gender and skin tone variants for select emoji.

Aside from the smiling with tear emoji (that we’ve taken to calling the “I’m dead inside” emoji), the other new emoji include bubble/milk tea, pinched fingers or the classic Italian and gesture, a disguised face, and a ninja.

The new set of emoji is also noticeably more gender progressive with emojis like a bottle-feeding father, Mx. Claus, a woman in a tuxedo, a man in a wedding veil, and the transgender symbol and flag.

Other fun emoji include the polar bear, seal, cockroach, tamale, fondue, and for whatever reason, a plunger.
