Once Again, Filipinos Spent the Most Time Online in the World
We Are Social's Digital 2021 report, in partnership with Hootsuite, is out. And, for the sixth consecutive year, Filipinos were (once again) reported to spend the most time on the internet—social media, to be exact. No, sadly, we don't get an award for holding that title.
According to the report, the Philippines spent an average of 10 hours and 56 minutes online. It's worrying considering the significant rise from last year's nine hours and 45 minutes. Then again, our country isn't called the social media capital for anything.
Right behind us are Brazil and Colombia with an average of 10 hours and eight minutes and 10 hours and seven minutes, respectively, spent online. Meanwhile, Japan figured in the last place—only spending four hours and 25 minutes on the internet daily.
Don't worry, Japan is way below average compared to the world. In case you're wondering, the global average for internet usage is six hours and 54 minutes.
At this point, it's an addiction. We're not even exaggerating: Another study by OnBuy.com says we're the most internet-addicted country since the average Filipino spends 102,054 hours of their life on social media.
Aside from internet usage, the Digital 2021 study also reported on e-commerce adoption. The Philippines improved greatly with an 80.2-percent growth from last year's 76 percent.
