10 Cool Xiaomi Gadgets That Make Practical Valentine Gifts

Sandy Tan Uy recalls how she and her father used to visit the original nondescript Mi store in Hong Kong when it first opened in 2015.

“There was always a line to get into this store on the 20th floor of a commercial building in faraway Mongkok,” says Uy. “My Dad and I would frequent this obscurely located store to buy as many goodies as we could carry. We would buy tons of power banks, which family and friends loved receiving as pasalubong. We loved the  feel of the neat white packaging and the attractive prices.”

Today, Xiaomi, a 10-year-old tech company based in Beijing is the No. 3 smartphone brand in the world, churning out numerous gadgets at affordable prices.

In 2018, the first Mi store opened in the Philippines. Uy’s father, the loyal fan from the beginning, and her cousin bagged the distribution rights, and are behind the authorized Mi stores and kiosks in 50 malls around the country.

With hundreds of products in the Mi catalog, Uy says it was tough to narrow down the list to her 10 favorites. Still, she shares her top picks of cool Xiaomi gadgets that will make great gifts for the New Year of the Ox or Valentine's Day this weekend. For someone else, or for yourself.

10| Mi Vacuum Cleaner Mini

This Xiaomi appliance takes care of the mess I create—chips on the couch, breadcrumbs on the dinner table, crumbs on my work desk, and more. It cleans between my laptop keys. It is powerful, rechargeable, and ultra-handy to pack along anywhere I go. (P1,599)

9| Mi TV 55”

Xiaomi is the number one TV maker in China. I'm happy with my global version Mi TV 55”, which is a smart TV with vivid 4k clarity and 2x10W stereo speakers for Dolby audio sound. Great value and comes super slim with the latest technology full metal enclosure. (P34,490)

8| Mi Automatic Soap Dispenser

With the increased handwashing we need to do these days, this contactless, moisturizing foam soap dispenser keeps the family clean and safe. It’s economical as each 300ml liquid soap provides 440 pumps of foam soap. Refills are readily available. Its 99.9-percent antibacterial properties keep bacteria and viruses away while our over-washed hands stay soft and moisturized. (P1,000)

7| Mi Electric Scooter Essential

The wind brushing against my face always feels liberating. The easy foldable design makes it compact to bring along. I feel safe even at night with ultra-bright headlights and brake lights. The shock-absorbing tires give me that enjoyable smooth ride. It’s an instant 10 years shaved off my real age when friends see me cruise on one! Care to guess my e-scooter age? (P14,990)

6| Mi Powerbank3 18W 10000mAh

The Mi Powerbank3 (P799) charges fast and is compact and lightweight for my handbag, while the Mi Powerbank 20000mAh 50W (P2,450) can quickly charge not only smartphones and iPads but also laptops. iPhone12 users will love that the USB-C port can be used for dual charging (works for both input and output).

5| Mi Massage Gun

I am addicted to this! It releases tight muscles after a workout or a long workday. It also stimulates good blood flow at the start of the day. I use it on my back, shoulders, arms, and legs. In the absence of my masseuse and physical therapist, this has turned out to be my quarantine best friend. (P8,990)

4| Mi Robot Vacuum Mop Pro

It cleans even when I’m sleeping. It's another Xiaomi appliance that can do scheduled cleaning via the Mi Home App. I can control it remotely via the app and view the live map while it’s at work to see which part of the house and what percentage of the job is done. It goes back to the charging dock on its own when its battery runs low after close to two hours of vacuuming and goes right back to work after fully charging itself. What’s best is it doesn’t ask for vacation leave nor sick leave! (P17,995)

3| Mi Watch

It comes with GPS tracking and 117 sports modes such as rowing, trekking, skipping, running, treadmill, swimming, and cycling. It does stress monitoring, sleep monitoring, and 24-hour heart rate monitoring and has a blood oxygen sensor and a 16-day battery life. This beauty has replaced the GPS watch that I ran my New York marathon with and had cost several times more. (P4,990)

2| Mi 10T Pro

It has a super-fast 144hz refresh rate display and well-balanced dual speakers for superior stereo audio. The 8k video, clone video, and photo features are fun to play with and the flagship chipset Snapdragon 865 delivers that speed with oomph. The 108MP + ultrawide + macro cameras are for images with true color, depth, and clarity that I love. Great value for performance and a feature-packed phone. (P24,990)

1| Mi Air purifier 3H

It provides the highest level 13 HEPA filtration by my bedside and work area for assured clean air free of bacteria, viruses, dust particles, smell, and allergens. Aesthetically appealing with its minimalist and sleek design, it’s a small price to pay for peace of mind. P8,990
