Beat the Heat With This Cool Summer Cocktail

Better than cracking open a cold one.

If you’re the kind of dude who enjoys cracking open a cold one with the boys, this time of year can be quite challenging. The hot and humid rainy season makes it difficult to congregate anywhere that’s not air-conditioned, and Manila’s bars are somewhat notorious for serving less than perfectly chilled brewskies.

The heat, which turns a cold one into lukewarm flavored water in three minutes, is partly to blame, but the ill-advised offer of ice cubes to bring your oat soda to its preferred temperature isn’t an appropriate method either.

Ice cubes, however, are perfectly acceptable in cocktails–quite essential one would be inclined to say. A crisp Hendricks Gin & Tonic’s a classic that’ll never fail you. A Mint Julep, made with Old Forester Bourbon, water, crushed ice and fresh mint is another refreshing choice.

They’re pretty straightforward to make too. To make a citrus spritz for example, simply combine 1oz each vodka and dry vermouth in a glass filled with ice, add equal parts sparkling water and tonic water, and a few lemon and lime slices.
