10 Drinks a Week is the New Alcohol Cap Limit

How much booze is too much?

It’s about time that someone crunched the numbers and told us how much alcohol is safe alcohol. According to Australia’s National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), it’s ten drinks a week and no more than four a day.

The folks at NHMRC did some research and discovered that alcohol-related injuries tend to increase after your fourth drink. According to the research, the risk of developing alcohol-related disease or becoming injured because of drinking alcohol stays at one percent if you drink no more than 10 standard drinks a week.

This means that for every 100 people who follow the guideline, one dies from alcohol-related injury or disease. Australian officials call it acceptable risk, considering that people will not stop drinking alcohol totally.

But of course, it all depends on what you’re drinking. After all, one bottle of beer is different from one shot of whisky. If you’re not sure whether you’ve had enough, just remember to not drive while intoxicated.
