This Philippine Hotel Bar Was Named One of World's Best by Forbes Travel Guide

It's the only Philippine establishment to land on the list.

The Bar at The Peninsula Manila has landed on the Forbes Travel Guide’s 2019 list of the World’s Best Hotel Bars, the only Philippine establishment to do so.

The unranked list includes 44 of the world’s most prestigious and luxurious hotel bars, and The Bar is only one of three hotel bars from Southeast Asia to make it on the list. The other two are Martini Bar at The Villas at AYANA Resort in Bali and Post Bar at The Fullerton Hotel in Singapore.

Forbes Travel Guide is an independent, global rating system for luxury hotels, restaurants, and spas. The hotel bars were narrowed down based on data collected from Forbes’ inspectors who stayed at the hotels anonymously and evaluated them based on up to 900 standards.

These top-notch establishments were chosen for more than just the quality of their beverages. Everything was measured, from the presentation of the drinks to whether the napkins were linen or cotton. All the bars on the list achieved near-perfect scores on the quality of their food and drinks, so there’s no doubting that The Bar is a world-class hotel bar.

And it sure dresses the part. The leather chairs, wooden walls, and checkered floors will transport you back to the ‘40s era of Cuba. Cozy yet sophisticated, The Bar’s ambiance is well worth the visit. The Forbes list suggests trying The Bar’s pork sisig croquetas and Sriracha butter duck wings, paired with Batangas Old Fashioned, a smooth bourbon cocktail infused with kapeng barako.

Naturally, Esquire recommends The Bar’s whisky collection, which has everything from light aromatic whiskies like Glenfiddich, to a wide variety of Japanese, American, and Canadian whiskies. A sip from its Mulata daiquiri with a touch of cacao also wouldn’t hurt.

After all, what is a Cuban-themed bar without a Cuban drink?
