How to Cook a 5-Star Feast With Canned Food

It's only item you need to survive another world war, a natural calamity, or your mother’s outrage. Canned goods are unquestionably one of man’s greatest inventions. They’ve saved mankind time, effort, and even cash, and have been the long-distance traveler's best friend since 1813

We know how easy it is to open a can and just stick a spoon into it, but we can’t let you continue doing this. Just because you're eating from cans doesn't mean you can't eat a gourmet, restaurant-style dish like a real gentleman. With just a couple of steps and a few extra minutes, you’re a few twists and turns away from a great meal. 

1| Corned beef + Tortillas = Corned beef tacos

Pan-fry canned corned beef until crispy. Warm up soft tortillas, place crispy corned beef in the center, and top with any leftover vegetables in your fridge (cabbage, tomatoes, onions, olives, etc.). Finish it off with some cheese and a drizzle of sour cream.

2| Spam + Canned kidney beans and tomatoes + Eggs = Cheater’s shakshouka

Sauté Hot & Spicy Spam cubes in a pan until browned. Add canned red kidney beans and canned crushed tomatoes. Simmer until slightly thick. Crack eggs on top, cover pan, and simmer for another two minutes until eggs are cooked.

3| Tuna + Canned corn + Instant cream of mushroom soup + Rice = Tuna baked rice

Combine canned tuna chunks, canned corn kernels, and canned cream of mushroom soup in a bowl. Fill an oven-safe casserole with rice. Top rice with tuna-and-corn mixture. Sprinkle with cheese. Bake until cheese is melted and top is golden.

4| Canned crab + Canned coconut milk + Canned mushrooms + Curry powder = Curry pasta

Sauté onions, garlic, and canned sliced mushrooms in a pan. Add canned crabmeat and canned coconut milk. Simmer until thick. Add curry powder and season to taste. Toss in cooked noodles. Top with crispy chickpeas.

5| Canned pineapple rings + Yogurt and granola = Pineapple crumble

Place canned pineapple rings on a baking tray. Sprinkle with brown sugar. Bake, broil, or torch until caramelized. Serve in bowls topped with yogurt (Greek, preferably) and granola.
