The coronavirus pandemic has taken yet another victim in the restaurant industry as Café Havana has seemingly been shuttered—and replaced with a Wildflour. The news was shared on Twitter through a photo by a user with the caption: "21-gun salute to Cafe Havana Greenbelt 3. Thank you for your contributions to society #IYKYK"

Let's take a moment to remember Café Havana. The restaurant, owned by the LJC Restaurant Group (Abe, Café Adriatico, and Fely J's, to name a few), grew from a Malate location to a Makati location which, in the years that followed, gained a seedy reputation for attracting a mix of older tourists and expatriates.

It was an institution, a touchstone for the food and beverage industry, and a place to quickly pass by without making eye contact with anyone—that's now closed. One Tweet claimed that Café Havana had just moved to replace the spot previously occupied by Seattle's Best. A source, however, has informed us that Seattle's Best will instead be replaced with Armorica by Café Breton. And so it appears this might really be the end of Makati's "special economic zone."
