This Small Indian Restaurant in Cainta is Offering Free Meals to the Hungry

Vijay Kumar has been living in the Philippines for the last 20 years. He owns a small Indian restaurant in Cainta, Rizal called Star Punjabi Dhaba. When the government declared the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine three weeks ago, Kumar understood that there will be people who will be unable to earn enough to put food on the table.

So, he decided to help out in his own small way.

Star Punjabi Dhaba started offering free meals to its customers. Kumar, who is 59 years old, does not discriminate and says he offers free food to everyone who needs it.

“Because of this pandemic, I understand (there will be) those who can’t afford to buy,” he told Esquire Philippines.

When asked how long he intends to serve the free meals, he said they will try to do keep it going until the ECQ ends.

“We are not expecting anything in return,” he said. “We only want to help.”

When I expressed concern that more people might start coming to his restaurant as word spreads about his good deed, Kumar was unfazed.

“We will try our best to accommodate them all,” he said. “We will have only take out free meals.”

A post about his good deed has already started going viral on Facebook.
