Eating Aged Cheeses Might Make You Live Longer
We always knew brie couldn't be that unhealthy. After all, how could something so delicious when melted in the oven be bad?
And thankfully researchers from the Texas A&M University are here to help us continue our addiction thanks to new findings linking aged cheeses with life expectancy.
According to the study published in the journal Cancer Research, aged cheeses such as brie, parmesan and cheddar could make you live longer and help prevent liver disease.
This is all thanks to a special compound within these types of cheese called spermidine which stops damaged liver cells from replicating, helping to prevent liver diseases including liver cancer.
Or, if cheese isn't your bag, the scientists also found that eating mushrooms, corn, soya, legumes and whole grains could have the same special benefits.
When spermidine treatment was observed in mice, it was linked to a 25% increase in life expectancy, although there's still some way to go before the researchers can confirm if the effect would be the same in humans.
But if the results are similar to those found in the mice, it could extend the average life expectancy from its current 81 figure to an impressive century.
