Food Delivery Is a Permanent Part of Life in the New Normal, Says Grab

This news bodes well for Grab’s delivery rider workforce.

The pandemic might be over, but delivery is here to stay. According to Grab Philippines’ latest PH Food & Grocery Trends report, seven out of 10 Grab consumers say “deliveries are a permanent part of their life today.”

This news bodes well for Grab’s delivery rider workforce, many of whom joined during the pandemic. According to Grab, one out of three users has signed up for Grab’s delivery subscription plan because of how often they use the service.

The average basket size on GrabFood and GrabMart has increased by 85 percent, which is credited to the increase of young families with children who are ordering food at least five times per month and ordering deliveries at least seven times per month.

As for food deliveries, Filipinos are using Grab as their new search engine to discover new brands and dishes. The average user spends 17 minutes browsing the app before making an order, and 88 percent discovered new merchants thanks to the app.

Fried chicken is now the most ordered dish on GrabFood, with roughly 55,000 orders of fried chicken every day. But while fast food is still a favorite on the app, Grab discovered that healthy and plant-based alternatives are gaining more popularity. Roughly 92 percent of Filipino consumers eat at least one healthy meal every two to three days, while almost two out of five consumers tried plant-based alternatives in the last six months. Healthy meal sales experienced a 12x increase, while health and wellness sales on GrabMart doubled.


“With the latest Food and Grocery Trends report, we’ve seen how GrabFood and GrabMart have continued to find a place in the lives of Filipinos by conveniently giving them their needs and wants. Whether its from lunch with officemates, dinner for the family after a long day of work, or even groceries delivered instead of going out, we’re happy we’re able to maximize the Grab platform to be part of our fellow Filipinos’ daily routine,” said Anton Bautista, Grab Philippines’ head of deliveries and business development.

With users discovering new brands on the app every day, delivery platforms are an essential channel for any F&B brand. On-demand delivery is a part of every Filipino’s dining experience in the new normal.

“More than learning fun facts about consumer habits, this Food and Grocery Trends is meant to help our merchant-partners in understanding the Filipino consumer and how we can all better serve them for all their delivery needs,” Bautista added.
