Toyo Eatery Is One of Asia's 50 Best Restaurants Two Years in a Row

It's is the lone Philippine establishment on the list.

Jordy Navarra's Toyo Eatery once again lands a spot on Asia's 50 Best Restaurant list, this year nailing 44th.

Toyo Eatery opened in 2016, celebrating Filipino food and culture in a refined but casual setting. Despite the delicacy of every dish, Navarra sticks to old-fashioned classic Filipino techniques, which may be marveled at via the open kitchen. Native ingredients are cooked with wood and charcoal, layering that characteristic smokiness Filipinos love in their food.

In 2019, the Makati haunt was in 43rd place and the year before that it was touted the "Miele One to Watch award." For these achievements, Navarra was awarded Esquire's Chef of the Year

Chele Gonzalez's Gallery Vask (which has now been revived as Gallery by Chele) was on the list in 2016 and 2017, ranked 39th to 35th respectively.

The awards ceremony, known to be the Oscars of the restaurant world, was supposed to be held in Japan this year, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was reformatted into a live stream.
