It’s official. Cat people are apparently smarter than dog people. That’s according to researchers from the Carroll University in Wisconsin who studied the personality traits of 418 people, who identified as either cat people or dog people.
According to the study, dog lovers were found to be more extroverted, outgoing, livelier, and energetic. The 352 dog people also admitted that they followed the rules and appreciated their pets most for the companionship they provided.
Meanwhile, cat lovers were found to be more introverted, sensitive, and independent. The 66 cat people were also revealed to be “non-conformists” who followed their own rules and appreciated the attention cats gave them the most.
One more thing: They tested higher in intelligence. That’s no surprise considering the company they keep. Just take a look at this guy.
“It makes sense that a dog person is going to be more lively, because they’re going to want to be out there, outside, talking to people, bringing their dog,” said professor Denise Guastello of Carroll University. “Whereas, if you’re more introverted and sensitive, maybe you’re more at home reading a book, and your cat doesn’t need to go outside for a walk.”
She makes a fair point. Intelligent people, like scientists or doctors, might need low maintenance pets to fit their busy lifestyles. But, you know how owners start to resemble their pets? Maybe the intelligence of cats rubs off on us, instead of the other way around.
Let’s be honest. Dogs are man’s best friend, but cats are on another level of evil genius. These are the animals that know what they’re doing when they pee on your bed or rip up your clothes. It’s not “typical” animal behavior. It’s strategy or just plain vengeance.
But their genius has also been known to be used for good, like Quilty the Freedom Fighter, who made headlines for his “mutinous” escape attempts from a Texan cat shelter.
So there you have it. Evidence that the feline is superior—and perhaps your masters as well. But this won't stop us from loving our doggos though.
