Support Filipino Farmers By Buying These Bamboo Face Shields From Mindanao
With the economy down, it’s important now more than ever to support local. Face shields are in high demand and low supply, and it looks like Filipino farmers from Mindanao have the solution to our woes.
Local bamboo farmers have created face shields made of bamboo slats that, in total, cost only P150 each. The face shields are still in the process of getting mass produced, and they aren’t for sale just yet. But keep your eyes peeled for when it does become available so you can purchase the protective product and support struggling farmers at the same time.
“Gusto nyong makabangon kaagad ang ekonomiya?” said Mindanao Development Authority chairperson Manny Pinol, who is also the former secretary of agriculture. “Huwag na muna kayo mag-isip ng importation kaagad. Patronize local products because by doing so we will be utilizing local raw materials providing income to the local farmers.”
Handmade by members of the Central Mindanao Green Workers Association, the face shield was designed by young agricultural engineer Junroe Barrios. Barrios and his team of farmers still need a complete manufacturing area to get their idea off the ground, so if you’re willing to help, you can contact Nonoy Jayme via 0965 887 3930 or 0951 413 1970.
The price of the bamboo face shields might be higher than the standard factory-made products imported from China, but at least these ones will support the livelihoods of Filipinos who are struggling during the pandemic.
“No, we are not competing with China. We are providing jobs for our poor families and income to farmers,” said Pinol.
