Having lots of money is great. You can buy anything you want and live comfortably. Now, researchers have also found that it lets you live longer as a new study says being wealthy adds nine years to your life.

The study was conducted over 10 years in the U.K. and the U.S. and used data taken from a total of 25,557 adults over the age of 50.

“We found that socioeconomic inequalities in disability-free life expectancy were similar across all ages in England and the U.S. but the biggest socioeconomic advantage in both countries and across all age groups was wealth,” says Dr. Paola Zaninotto, a professor in epidemiology and healthcare at University College London.

From the age of 50, wealthy American and British men lived 31 more healthy years as compared to the poorest men who lived 22 to 23 years.

The difference between the life expectancy of the rich and poor has been growing in recent years. One of the reasons is that high net worth individuals have more access to new health technologies and are more likely to take advantage of new treatments.
