Not all diets are the same. Even though a certain diet may be effective, it doesn't mean that it's healthy for you. What's more, it's results could not be permanent in the long run. A new study has revealed the best in terms of benefits and effectiveness.
In the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition's latest report, data from 250 participants were analyzed to come up with the best diets. The results showed that the Mediterranean diet, intermittent fasting, and Paleo were the top three in delivering weight loss fairly quickly, as well as providing health benefits.
"Like the Mediterranean diet, intermittent fasting and paleo diets can also be valid healthy eating approaches—the best diet is the one that includes healthy foods and suits the individual,” said the co-lead author Melyssa Roy, research fellow at the University of Otago in New Zealand.
Participants that were under the Mediterranean diet lost more than six and a half pounds in 12 months. While those who stuck to Paleo lost four pounds on average.
The Mediterranean diet takes its name from the regions that eat similarly, namely Greek, Turkish, and Italian. Think natural, colorful food items such as olive oil, tomatoes, fish, and a ton of fresh vegetables, which all have health benefits.
