These Are the Most Physically Active Countries in the World, According to Study

The Philippines isn't one of them.

Filipinos are a lot of things. Sure, we're a happy bunch that's known for being hospitable. But, physically fit we are not—for the most part at least. That's according to a new study that lists down the countries whose citizens exercise the most.

Ipsos, a market research and consulting firm, surveyed 21,000 adults from 29 countries and regions about their exercise habits and found that people from the Netherlands are the most physically active. In fact, the Dutch spend 12 hours a week keeping physically fit.

"On average they report spending 12.8 hours a week (almost two hours per day) doing physical exercise or team sports, double the average of 6.1 across 29 markets. People from Germany and Romania are the next most active, carrying out 11.1 and 11 hours of exercise per week respectively," researchers said.

Check out the countries in the top 10 below.

  1. Netherlands
  2. Germany
  3. Romania
  4. Russia
  5. Hungary
  6. India
  7. Belgium
  8. Canada
  9. China
  10. South Africa

Filipinos aren't at the bottom, however. Brazil takes that spot for being the least physically active, only spending three hours a week exercising. It has to be said that overall most survey respondents wished they could be more active, but lack of time stops them from doing so. Other factors include lack of money, weather, and more.

If you're trying to be more active, here's a start: check out simple workouts that can be done in 15 minutes or less.
