It's okay to be curious, of course, and we know that's the real reason you're here. Penis enlargement is a cosmetic procedure that has been on the rise globally in the past few years. If we're being objective about it, penis enlargement surgery is a reflection of a man's low self-esteem.

According to this cosmetic penile enhancement surgery retrospective evaluation, researchers found that, out of 355 cases of phalloplasty performed between 2012 and 2014, male genital image is correlated to overall body image, psycho-social conventions, and sexual health.

What are some of the factors that ultimately led to patients going through with it? For starters, most men were too concerned with endowment simply because of archaic roots (the universal "the bigger, the better" expression says a lot).

The study also found that thoughts of penis enlargement usually emerge during adolescence, where comparisons and unrealistic expectations engulf the teenage mind. But more than anything else, surgeries are driven by fear and performance anxiety. Who doesn't want to satisfy their partners, right? The discomfort alone has pushed some men to seek alternative methods, both surgical and non-surgical, for solutions.

Germany, for instance, was even called the capital of penis enlargement in 2014, based on data released by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), with an estimated 2,786 operations. In Asia, numbers from 2016 show that India performed the most penile enlargement surgeries at 1,484 or 12.7 percent of that country's total number of surgical procedures. Global survey results that year also show that penile enlargements had increased over 16 percent from the previous year.

How does it work?

First things first, yes, it's going to hurt like a motherf*cker. Surgeries can take up to five hours and more. Imagine sitting through that.

There are various procedures to get bigger. If it's for the aesthetics, skin grafts and transfer of fat cells are commonplace. For patients who are looking to widen their thing, they can do the pre-formed penile silicone block (Penuma), which is avaiable in the United States. This involves a silicone implant and silicone sleeve that will be implanted under the skin for a girthier look.

For length, it's a different ball game. Mayo Clinic says that the most widely accepted penis enlargement procedure will start with cutting the suspensory ligament that attaches the penis to the pubic bone (what a glorious image). Skin will then be moved from the abdomen to the shaft. Once the ligament is cut, then you got yourself a lower-hanging fruit.

How much does it cost?

In the Philippines and Asia as a whole, it's still pretty hush-hush and most of the time, you have to consult with a plastic surgeon and request for rates.

If we were to reference Medical Pinas, penile implant surgery can cost anywhere between P120,000 and P500,000 while penis enhancement surgery can go from about P50,000 to 120,000, and beyond. Licensed clinics can do cosmetic surgery for penis enlargement, too. It will likely cost P80,000 to P150,000. Packages, urologist feels, materials, and facilities vary.

…But why?

Listen, nobody actually really needs penis enlargement at the end of the day. Insecurity is a trap for fragile egos. Male body expectations, which commonly stem from pornography, can be addressed in better ways. Plus, porn is just an unhealthy place to learn sex from in the first place.

There's no reason to feel ashamed about our bodies, after all, and being too small might matter more to men than it does to partners. The Urology Care Foundation (UCF) once claimed that these procedures are only necessary when men have a condition called "micropenis." Surgeries are considered high risk, as well.

The average penis size for Filipino men hovers around 4.5 inches, and it is what it is. Penis size will always be a factor, but it's not everything. Hey we can never please everyone, but we can surely please someone, no matter our size, shape, or form. Sex, in the end, is best enjoyed when consenting adults embrace and celebrate each other's bodies.
