Here's How You Can Finally Set a Date With Someone From the Far North (Like Quezon City)

And we thought the North-South love affair was the stuff of long-distance fairytales.

It’s not every day you meet someone you click with who also happens to live in your neighborhood. Actually, it’s never. Metro Manila might not be New York, but we do have one thing in common: Dating someone outside our city is a logistical nightmare. The North-South love affair is the stuff of long-distance fairytales.

Until this app came along. has helped many commuters brave traffic, but its latest development called “Sakay Halfway” might just endear it to the entire population of Metro Manila, or at least the very single Quezon City. The in-app feature will tell you where the real halfway point is between two locations based on traffic and commuting routes so you know where to really go for a Valentine’s date this weekend.

"We think the greatest barrier to true love isn't strict parents or incompatible preferences,” said co-founder and CEO of Philip Cheang. "[It’s] traffic and distance, actually."

"Admit it, dating someone isn't a problem until you find out where they live. And then it's like, sinong mag-aadjust?"

Hard truths only.

We gave the app a spin using two locations on the edges of the north and south side of Metro Manila: SM Fairview and Alabang Town Center.

Once you find the “Halfway” feature in the menu of the app, you’ll need to input your location and the location of your “Labidabs.” Its word, not ours.

Note: “E di sa puso mo” doesn’t actually work.

Clicking the “Let’s Meet Halfway” will show you that the real halfway point for the far north and south is actually, wait for it, Taft Avenue. That’s right. It’s not Ortigas, debunking this story right here that I’m certain someone from Quezon City wrote.

The Halfway in-app feature will even tell you what establishments are open at your halfway point, so you get even more ideas for your date.

There you have it, what we’ve all been waiting for. An app that makes dating in this ridiculous traffic a little more bearable—and tells you both to adjust.
