Save the Date: World Naked Gardening Day on May 6

By all means, let's continue this tradition.

Going au naturel for a good cause is nothing new. People have disrobed to prove a point many times before. What's new to us is the fact that there's such a thing as the annual World Naked Gardening Day (WNGD).

Apparently, the event has been celebrated every first Saturday of May since 2005.

It was founded by Mark Storey, a board member of the Naturist Action Committee in the U.S. His main advocacy is to promote the joys of nudity and fight off any anti-nudity legislation. He also happens to be an editor for Nude & Natural magazine.

Storey's WNGD co-founder is permaculturalist Jacob Gabriel. To be specific, WNGD was conceptualized as a project of Body Freedom Collaborative (BFC), an organization advocating the "the integration and acceptance of non-sexual social nudity."

So, what does one do on WNGD? The WNGD website suggests:

"Find an opportunity to get naked and do some gardening. Do so alone, with friends, with family, with your gardening club, or with any other group collected for that purpose. Do it inside your house, in your back yard, on a hiking trail, at a city park, or on the streets. Stay private or go public. Make it a quiet time or make it a public splash."

It added, "Just get naked and make your part of the botanical world a healthier and more attractive place. Secondly, tell someone about your experience. No one owns this event, so it does not really matter whom you tell, but tell someone."
