Carlo Paalam Assured a Silver Medal After Defeating Tanaka in His Home Court
Filipino boxer Carlo Paalam is now onto the finals after beating Japan’s Ryomei Tanaka in his home court in a unanimous decision. Paalam has now secured at least a silver medal for the Philippines, the country’s second in the Tokyo Olympics.
Paalam, who dominated Tanaka in all three rounds, now has a clear shot at the Philippines’ second-ever gold medal in the men’s flyweight finals. The final fight will take place on August 7, Saturday at 1 pm. (Philippine time).
Paalam’s fellow boxer Eumir Marcial, who’s already assured a bronze, is up next in the semifinal round of men’s middleweight. Marcial will be fighting Ukrainian Oleksandr Khyzhniak.
