SEA Games Events to Continue if Typhoon is 'Manageable,' Says Suzara

Contingency plans are in place in the event that Typhoon Tisoy does hamper the progress of some events in the 30th Southeast Asian Games.

That's what Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (Phisgoc) COO Ramon "Tats" Suzara promised with the weather disturbance threatening to lay waste on the games' locations.

"One of the major things we are monitoring is to not have too much delay and of course, the safety of the athletes and participants, and the third is to align the competition schedule. And of course, of there's no damage to the field of play," he said on Monday.

"There’s an operating policy for all competition managers and technical delegates and everything is set for full contingency. All venues, all technical delegates, venue managers, are ready."

With the inclement weather looming, Phisgoc has already made changes on events slated in Subic, with water sports events already postponed until the weather is cleared.

Suzara said that Phisgoc is closely monitoring the weather, but as long as it permits, the games should be a go.

"As long as the category of the typhoon is manageable, if necessary tuloy ang laro," he said. "But if it’s strong, it’s postponed or delayed.”
