After Winning Bronze, Eumir Marcial Is Taking Home P7 Million

Here’s everything Marcial has won after winning a bronze medal.

After a tense semifinals match in the men’s middleweight event, Olympic boxer Eumir Marcial bagged a bronze medal for the Philippines, the country’s third medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Not only is the 25-year-old Zamboanga native taking home a bronze medal, he’s also won P7 million in winnings for placing third at the Olympics.

Prior to the Olympics, the government, private companies, and tycoons all promised cash prizes to every Filipino who will win a medal. Like his fellow medalists Nesthy Petecio and Hidilyn Diaz, Marcial is coming home to millions of pesos and the pride of an entire nation.

The government and the private companies that made promises better prepare their checkbooks, because we now have three Tokyo Olympic medalists to celebrate. Here’s everything Marcial has won after winning a bronze medal:

  1. P2 million from the Philippine Sports Foundation
  2. P2 million from the Manny V. Pangilinan Sports Foundation
  3. P2 million from the San Miguel Foundation
  4. P1 million from House Deputy Speaker Mikee Romero

That totals to P7 million, not including pledges and sponsorships from his LGU and private companies, which are no doubt going to be made in the next few days. Marcial’s bronze marks him as part of the “Golden Olympics,” which is what Philippine Olympic committee president Bambol Tolentino is calling the best Olympic performance by the Philippine delegation in history.

Marcial also turned professional in December 2020, so expect more tense matches with the Pacquiao-backed boxer.
