John Paul Tanyag, volunteer at the SEA Games 2019, posted photos of the Pami stuffed toy merchandise and claimed it was selling for P1,800 each at the Philippine Arena.

The SEA Games 2019 is a historic event especially for Filipinos, and it could take another 14 years before we could host another one. The last time we hosted the games was in 2005 during the term of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. At the time, the Philippines designed a mascot named Gilas, who is a Philippine Eagle. Gilas (whose name is presumably derived from the word agila or eagle) symbolized the elegance, strength, and pride of winning the SEA Games. Gilas in Filipino means a display of mastery and skill. Prior to Gilas, the original design for the SEA Games 2005 mascot was a Philippine tarsier.
