Look: Bicol International Airport Is Shaping Up

Get ready to tick more entries off your travel bucket list: a new gateway is being built down south. The Bicol International Airport, located in Barangay Alobo, Daraga, Albay, is targeted for a July 2021 completion, according to the Department of Transportation. It is being tagged as the country's "Most Scenic Gateway," and for good reason—can you imagine seeing the perfect cone of Mount Mayon from the skies?
The airport was at 61 percent completion rate as of October 2019. The Department of Tourism-Bicol Region recently checked on the construction, and the pictures they posted on November 18 are getting us all excited for a Bicol food trip (we can almost smell the Bicol Express!).
The Bicol International Airport (BIA) is designed to accommodate around two million passengers yearly once everything is fully set up. And with the nearby domestic airport in Legazpi City, Bicol will soon feel nearer than it actually is.
This project has been in the works since 2005. Albay is currently number four in domestic tourism arrivals, noted Albay Representative Joey Salceda in a report by the Philippine News Agency. Take a look below.
