The Cheapest Time to Book a Holiday, Depending on Your Destination

If you've been holding off on booking your summer holiday for this year, don't worry—that doesn't necessarily mean you've missed out on the best rates. It turns out it all depends on where you're heading.

According to the experts at TripAdvisor, holidaymakers could expect to save as much as 49% on hotels in some of the most popular holiday destinations if they book at the right time. Based on TripAdvisor hotel pricing data, a new report from the company has found the best time to book to put you in with a chance of getting the cheaper hotel rates during the peak summer months this year.

The company used price trends from the summer seasons in 2016 and 2017, the time periods before travel when rates were at their lowest and the overall price averages for 15 popular destinations and came up with suggested 'best time to book' periods when the hotel prices are likely to be consistently less than the average for this summer.

With this in mind, here's what they've found:

DUBAI, UAE

Average hotel rate: P12,946.72

Best time to book for cheaper rates this summer: Within 3 months of the departure date where, according to TripAdvisor's report, you could save 49%.

NEW YORK CITY, USA

Average hotel rate per night: P11,572.48

Best time to book for cheaper rates this summer: Book within one month of heading to the Big Apple and you could save 40% on hotel fares.

TOKYO, JAPAN

Average hotel rate per night: P10,487.56

Best time to book for cheaper rates this summer: Book within one month of travelling to Tokyo and you could save 30%.

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

Average hotel rate per night: P10,921.53

Best time to book for cheaper rates this summer: Book within 5 weeks and you could save 25%.

BARCELONA, SPAIN

Average hotel rate per night: P11,861.80

Best time to book for cheaper rates this summer: Book 3-9 months ahead of going for 23% discount.

ROME, ITALY

Average hotel rate per night: P11,066.19

BANGKOK, THAILAND

Average hotel rate per night: P6,509.52

Best time to book for cheaper rates this summer: Book within 3 months of going and there's a chance you'll save 16% against average summer rates.

ORLANDO, FLORIDA, USA
