Palawan Makes it to List of World’s 10 Most Beautiful Islands...Again

Barely two weeks after CNN Travel ranked the city of Vigan as one of the Most Beautiful Towns in Asia, the travel news outlet once again put another Philippine destination on one of its prestige lists. The island of Palawan is on this year’s edition of CNN Travel’s top 10 of the world’s most beautiful islands. The author of the list praised the island’s abundant cliffs and verdant mangroves and lauded El Nido as an “exclusive paradise getaway.”
Also rounding up the list are: Milos, Greece; Bartolomé, Ecuador; Fregate, Seychelles; St. Lucia, Lesser Antilles; Jura, Scotland; Komodo Island, Indonesia; and Kaua’i, United States.
In the past decade, the idyllic island has enjoyed international attention from the foreign press, being named the Most Beautiful Island in the World by Huffington Post in 2014, by Conde Nast Traveler in 2016, and most recently taking second place in Travel+Leisure’s ranking of the World’s Best Islands earlier in the year. In May, the island again made the news because of the opening of the intimate Banwa Private Island, named the world’s most expensive island resort with accommodations going for $100,000 a night.

Some of the more renowned tourist destinations in Palawan include El Nido, Coron, San Vicente, and Puerto Princesa (Read: Coron vs El Nido: Which One’s Your Perfect Island Getaway?). The latter is home to the underground river, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where CNN Travel’s Jen Rose Smith advises jet setters to venture into its limestone caves and allot time to lounge at its picturesque beaches.
