The Philippines hosts some of the most stunning beaches and diving spots in the world, and we’re no stranger to international travel awards.

Meanwhile, just a few days ago, Palawan and Boracay were recognized by Big 7 Travel among the 30 most beautiful places in the world. That’s no easy feat considering that the two beach communities beat the likes of Paris and Venice.

The global recognition for the Philippine tourism wouldn’t be possible without the efforts of the tourism board. Led by Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, the Department of Tourism also bagged its own award as Asia’s Leading Tourist Board.

“We are truly honored and thankful for the accolades given to the Philippines at the 2020 World Travel Awards. These recognitions are certainly an inspiration to the industry as we safely and gradually reopen our destinations for tourism. This would not be possible without the combined efforts from our tourism stakeholders, local government units, partner agencies, and our fellow Filipinos who have tirelessly promoted our country’s attractions, products, and culture,” said Romulo-Puyat.

According to the DOT, this is the Philippines' fourth time to win Asia's Leading Beach Destination and second time to win Asia’s Leading Dive Destination. The country has been nominated a number of times since 2006, and 2020 marks the second win in the Leading Tourist Board category for the Department of Tourism.
