These Filipino Card Games About History Were Made by Two Famous Painters

Artists Rodel Tapaya and Marina Cruz had nagging concerns around how to be effective when it comes to teaching their children about their heritage and history in a way that is memorable, meaningful, and fun.
“The best stories are the ones that teach,” the artists wrote on Istorya, their design studio where they launched Patandaan and Sangandaan, two Filipino card games inspired by history. They describe Istorya as “a Filipino company devoted to learning through fun.”
The couple aims to spark curiosity and cultivate experiences that are both educational and fun for kids and adults.
Patandaan is a card game that holds mostly Philippine historic figures, and can be played by two to five players.

Preserving History Through Games

Istorya's masterminds Rodel Tapaya and Marina Cruz hope to ignite every Filipino’s enthusiasm for learning about their roots. “To every Filipino child, play is far more powerful than many parents realize, and could even be the key to learning,” says the couple.
“Our vision is to break new ground and transform learning in the Philippines. We aim for a time when our history is easily remembered and is joyfully shared in ways that would bring light to our culture and bring hope to our future.”
Istorya products will also be available at Istorya Studios in Lazada from July 6, 2022 onwards. It will also have a presence at ToyCon 2022 at Booth D4, Megatrade Hall, SM Megamall, from July 8 to 10.
