Made Different: Bigboy Cheng and Quang Minh Are Champions of Street Culture

If you've so much as observed the streetwear scene in Metro Manila at any point in the past three decades, then you probably already know who Bigboy Cheng is. If you don't, then be apprised: The man is a prolific collector and purveyor of sneakers, streetwear, and street art, and the mind behind Secret Fresh Gallery and the Ronac Art Center. He's a progenitor, a first mover, a guy who was into all of this before you and your older brother were. Essentially, he's a pioneer of street culture in our parts.

Right across the pond from us is another scene: one that calls Ho Chi Minh City its home. Vietnam has its own budding, burgeoning street subculture, populated by unique brands and possessed by a burning desire to break free from long-standing norms and conventions. Among these brands is Headless—a clothing label designed for the city, and in many ways, by the city. At its helm is the creative visionary Quang Minh.

These two men—Bigboy Cheng and Quang Minh—are a whole sea apart and from vastly different backgrounds, yet they share a similar purpose. They're both champions of street culture, for Manila and Ho Chi Minh respectively. By building brands and fostering communities around a passion for clothes, music, and art, they helped shape the identity of their cities' streets.
