“It is one of my favorite songs. He hasn’t played the saxophone in a very long time. So I was so surprised that he played tonight,” Emmeline, Department of Justice Undersecretary, told Esquire Philippines. “Mark is so sweet. He made me cry happy tears.”
It's been a rough year for the couple. In July, Mark was confirmed positive for COVID-19. Emmeline has
been battling lupus, a disease in which a person's immune system attacks one's own tissues and organs, for the last 13 years.
Emmeline said they celebrated all day long.
“I woke up and he greeted me with peonies, my favorite flowers. I gave him a card that I drew and cooked breakfast for him,” she said. “We watched the Lakers versus Heat game and we won. Yaaay! He ordered all our favorite food for lunch, Japanese. And we blew our sixth-anniversary cake, Roshan’s Prince Albert cake. My favorite too.”
Emmeline said also she gave him a painting by one of their favorite artists, Alfredo Esquillo. He had given her a painting by Esquillo when he found out she was pregnant with their daughter, Emma, after being told by doctors it was going to be difficult for them to have children. Emma turned five two weeks ago.
“For dinner, Mark had a specially prepared meal for the three of us. He hired Wolfgang to cater for us. Then Emma had a song and dance number. Then he played a couple of songs and sang for Emma and me. Then we danced and sang all night long. It was a happy and meaningful anniversary.”
Emmeline paid tribute to her husband in a post on Facebook.
“Happy 6th anniversary, my Love. You make me so happy. I am so lucky to have you as my husband. You are the best!” she said.

“We are different in many ways—But our differences complement each other in a way that makes us better together. We naturally make up for each other’s weaknesses and enhance each other’s strengths.
I thank God every day for you, dearest Mark. I love you!”
