Josh Munji, who turned 21, thought he was just celebrating another pandemic birthday. But when he was about to blow the candles on his cake, his family told him to pull out the “Happy Birthday” decor on it.

Munji joked, “May P21,000?” Turns out, there was.

According to his sister Danielle Joane Munji, the family decided to surprise Josh because it is the second time he is celebrating his birthday amid a lockdown.

“My brothers and I thought about it because we wanted to surprise Josh for his 21st birthday, his second in quarantine. He wasn’t expecting anything and has been feeling tired and down because he just finished his prelim exams, so the timing was perfect,” shared Danielle Munji in an interview with Esquire Philippines.

Josh is taking up Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Santo Tomas.

How Josh Spent His P21K

According to Danielle, Josh is planning to buy a new set of clothes using the birthday cash and will save the rest of the money.

“He recently purged his closet because most of his clothes don’t fit anymore, so he said he’ll spend it on clothes. He only has P6,000 on hand now, the remaining P15,000 will be placed in his savings bank,” said Danielle.

How His Family Pulled off the Surprise

According to Danielle, the whole family mutually contrived to arrange the surprise. Everybody pitched in for the P21,000.

“Half of it came from our parents. The rest were from my brothers and me and some relatives,” said Danielle.
